When it comes to eCommerce, Etsy fits a certain niche. Hand crafted items will always be in demand and Etsy has helped crafty people fill that demand since 2005. What if you want to take that next step though? You like Etsy, but you want to run your own online store in addition to it. Round3Media is working on a solution for you. Right now, Magento is the most powerful and feature rich of open-source if not all eCommerce package available. Magento can handle difficult configurations of items, promotions, and marketing. By using Magento, your search engine results will also have the possibility to increase your search engine rankings.
Still in early development, our Etsy to Magento integration will allow you to:
- Select which products to import from Etsy to Magento
- Pull down your Etsy images, descriptions, inventory levels, and prices into Magento
- When an item sells in Magento, report that reduction in inventory to Etsy
- Monitor your Etsy items to refresh inventory levels in Magento
This will be our first contribution to the Magento community, and there will be more to come.

That's pretty awesome. Please contact me to let me know when you have something working. I have a friend that does custom glasswork and we are yet to find an ecommerce solution that allows “one-off” pieces of art to be sold.

We will. This is just a first stab at connecting the two. This could be just an experiment since we do not know if people would like such a plugin.

I came across this while considering trying to build something similar, so I'm interested to know how it goes.
The only hitch I can think of is that Etsy's API is totally read only, meaning there's no way to decrement the Etsy stock if something sells in Magento. You could theoretically rig something up with curl, but it seems dicey at best.

We got a little further in development over the weekend. Check out our newest post. http://www.round3media.com/etsy-to-magento-scre...
Thanks Eli, we are getting closer. We're at the point that items are downloaded and stored in a custom Magento table. Tonight I'll be working on the part that will create Magento items. From there it's fine details. We posted a screenshot on our latest post.
That is the current state of the Etsy API, but they are looking into OAuth an some new methods.

Hopefully that will come sooner rather than later!
Hopefully, although as a former employee of Etsy I've learned not to hold my breath for any particular software release.
