Sembawang Food guide
3 Food Spots That Make Sembawang Worth The Trip
When people think of Sembawang, they usually think of Sun Plaza, Sembawang Shopping Centre, or simply another quiet residential neighbourhood in the north. At first glance, it may not seem like a destination for food lovers. But tucked away just opposite Sembawang Shopping Centre is a stretch of eateries that locals have been quietly enjoying for years. From comforting white beehoon and traditional claypot rice to flavour-packed tacos, Sembawang is home to some surprisingly good food that's well worth the trip. Here's what we tried and whether they're worth adding to your list.
Food Review
White Restaurant
三巴旺白米粉
White Beehoon
Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
The star of the meal is undoubtedly the Original Sembawang White Beehoon. Served in a rich, silky seafood broth, every strand of beehoon is coated with flavour while still retaining its light texture. Generously topped with fresh prawns, squid, fish slices and other seafood, the dish is both comforting and satisfying without feeling overly heavy. A squeeze of fresh lime brightens the broth with a subtle tanginess, cutting through the richness and bringing out the natural sweetness of the seafood. It's a simple addition, but one that elevates the dish and makes each mouthful even more enjoyable.
While the Original Sembawang White Beehoon is undoubtedly the star of the menu, White Restaurant also offers an extensive selection of tze char dishes, making it a great spot for family meals or group gatherings. If you're visiting, don't miss their signature Traditional Hand-Rolled Meat & Seafood Roll and their Golden Mantou!
To round off the meal, White Restaurant also serves a selection of desserts. If you still have room after the hearty feast, they're worth considering for a sweet ending to your meal.
Sembawang Traditional Claypot Rice
Traditional Claypot Rice
Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
If you're a fan of traditional claypot rice, Sembawang Traditional Claypot Rice is a spot that's well worth visiting. Cooked the traditional way over charcoal, every claypot carries that unmistakable smoky "wok hei" aroma that instantly whets your appetite.
What stood out most was the rice itself. Perfectly cooked with a layer of crispy, golden crust at the bottom, every bite offers a satisfying contrast between the fluffy rice and the crunchy, caramelised bits that claypot rice lovers look forward to. Mixed together with the savoury sauce, tender chicken, Chinese sausage and salted fish, the flavours come together beautifully, with every mouthful packed full of fragrance and depth.
Besides their signature claypot rice, Sembawang Traditional Claypot Rice also offers a wide selection of tze char dishes, making it a great place to visit with family and friends. We also tried their Curry Fish Head, which was enjoyable with its rich, comforting curry that paired well with rice. While it was a solid dish, it didn't leave as strong an impression as the claypot rice, which remains the standout item on the menu. If it's your first visit, we'd definitely recommend making the claypot rice your top priority.
Bored Tacos
Beef Chilli Quesadilla, Tacos, and Loaded Nachos
Rating: ★★★★⯨ (4.5/5)
If you're looking for something different from the usual local food, Bored Tacos is a great spot to satisfy your Mexican food cravings. Every dish we tried was packed with flavour, making it easily one of our favourite finds in Sembawang.
Our standout favourite was the Beef Chilli Quesadilla. It was crispy and generously filled with savoury beef chilli and melted cheese, creating a rich, comforting bite that's hard to stop eating.
We also sampled a variety of tacos, including the Fish, Chicken, and Beef options. Each had its own distinct flavour, with fresh toppings that added crunch and flavour to every bite. Whether you prefer seafood, chicken or beef, there's something for everyone.
To complete the meal, we ordered the Loaded Nachos, piled high wih crispy tortilla chips, nacho cheese, creamy guacamole, fresh salsa and a generous serving of beef chilli. Every bite had a good balance of crunch, creaminess and savoury flavour, making it a perfect sharing dish.
If you're in the mood for Mexican food, Bored Tacos is definitely worth checking out. The portions are satisfying, the ingredients taste fresh, and every dish we tried left us wanting more.
